HARRISBURG – Rep. Justin Simmons (R-Lehigh/Montgomery/Northampton) today issued the following statement regarding Speaker of the House Mike Turzai’s retirement.
“Mike Turzai is a once-in-a-generation political talent. He gave the Republicans substantial majorities in a state where sound policy matters more than political affiliation.
“Under Mike’s leadership, Pennsylvania has changed for the better. State residents can now buy wine and beer in grocery stores, we have pension reform for public employees that mirrors the private sector and we got state debt under control, just to name a few cornerstones of his great legacy as speaker.
“Mike’s departure represents a tremendous loss for Pennsylvania and whoever succeeds him will have big shoes to fill. I will miss him greatly and wish him the very best in his future endeavors.”
