HARRISBURG—Rep. Thomas Murt (R-Montgomery/Philadelphia) joined his colleagues in the House in passing a resolution calling for Richard "Dick" Allen to be elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
“Allen was an outstanding baseball player who made important contributions to the Philadelphia Phillies,” Murt said.

House Resolution 518 to honor Allen’s legacy.
The former Philadelphia Phillies slugger graduated from Wampum High School in 1960 and was signed by the Phillies at that time.
"Dick Allen was a great baseball player who's deserving of recognition in the Hall of Fame,” Murt said. “Many of us grew up watching him play and still admire his achievements. He played in the minor leagues for a few years where he experienced racial discrimination. But in September of 1963, he was called up by the Phillies and began a very successful career.”
He hit 351 home runs and had 1,119 RBIs. In 1964, he was named National League Rookie of the Year. In 1972, he was named the American League’s Most Valuable Player, and was also selected as an All-Star for seven seasons.
“Allen received many other awards during his career, but we in the Legislature believe he’s earned the right to be inducted into baseball's Hall of Fame,” Murt said.
