HARRISBURG – Earlier today, Department of Health Secretary Rachael Levine told reporters no “granular data” was used in making the decision to recommend extracurricular and recreational sports be halted until 2021. In response, Rep. Seth Grove (R-York) issued the following statement:
“I find it extremely alarming granular data was not used in making a decision which impacted tens of thousands of Pennsylvanians. From the very beginning of this pandemic Gov. Tom Wolf has argued that he is basing his decisions on ‘data and science.’ Secretary Levine’s comments raise serious questions about how much of the administration’s actions, if any, have been based on data or science. Gov. Wolf’s haphazard announcement of his recommendation at the end of the press briefing shows exactly how the decision to make the guideline was made – on a whim with little to no thought put into it.
“I recently filed two Right-to-Know requests, one with the Department of Health and the other with the Department of Education, seeking information on the data Wolf used to reach his recommendation. The fact the administration now says no granular data was used is certainly concerning. Especially since it came after my request to the administration seeking this information, which under Act 77, they are required to provide. As my request asked for any public health data or model used for the decision, I expect and look forward to seeing what, if anything the administration will provide in response to the requests.”
