HARRISBURG – After the state House today in Harrisburg fell short in its effort to override the governor’s veto of legislation that would have empowered local school districts to establish health and safety guidelines for school sports and extracurricular activities, Rep. Justin Simmons (R-Lehigh/Montgomery/Northampton), who voted for the override, issued the following statement:
“The effort to take control away from the governor and return it to local officials came up a little short today, and that is disappointing. I voted to give our students more freedom and flexibility when participating in sports, marching band and other activities. I voted to enable parents and families to attend events and support their students. There unfortunately weren’t enough of us willing to stand up and vote today in the state House for Pennsylvania students, athletes and families. While this effort came up short, I will continue to fight in Harrisburg on behalf of the football players, cheerleaders, marching band students and others who want to be able to participate in these activities and have their parents there cheering them on.”
