HARRISBURG – Continuing efforts to ensure residents have access to quality health care, the House Professional Licensure Committee approved on Tuesday amended legislation by Rep. Jesse Topper (R-Bedford/Franklin/Fulton) to improve Pennsylvania’s Professional Nursing Law.
The amendment to
House Bill 100 creates a six-year pilot program to allow certified registered nurse practitioners to practice without a collaborative agreement in areas of the state that are experiencing a critical shortage of primary care. Participants must meet several criterial.
“The rural nature of the 78th District is a prime example of the importance of and need for affordable health care in areas that are underserved,” Topper said.
In addition, the bill calls for a study into the program, which would be delivered to the General Assembly, to guide further legislative efforts.
Topper has spearheaded modernizing Pennsylvania’s Professional Nursing Law, as well as other efforts to improve access to quality health care, for years. House Bill 100 now goes to the full House for consideration.
