HARRISBURG – To get answers to numerous questions about problems that have plagued the state’s Unemployment Compensation System, Rep. Kate Klunk (R-Hanover) filed with the Department of Labor and Industry four Right-to-Know requests (RTK).
Klunk was forced to make the filing after a letter she had sent to the department on Sept. 15 has gone unanswered.
“My hope was that the department would respond to my questions in a timely manner so that we, including the public, have a clearer picture of the state’s response to the unemployment crisis and how prepared it was to meet the need of millions of Pennsylvanians,” Klunk said. “Unfortunately, that did not happen. In the name of government transparency, I filed the Right-to-Know requests.”
The governor’s unconstitutional business shutdown and stay-at-home orders wreaked havoc on the lives of all Pennsylvanians, especially those who were put out of work. This has led to questions as to how involved the Department of Labor and Industry was in the process of initiating the order and whether or not the department was adequately prepared and given appropriate notice that a historic number of unemployed Pennsylvanians would be seeking assistance.
Klunk’s original letter and the subsequent RTK requests seek answers to those questions.
