HARRISBURG – Legislation crafted by Rep. Todd Polinchock (R-Bucks) to save small Pennsylvania farms from restrictions of local interference was voted out of the Local Government Committee this week at the state Capitol.
“I have witnessed too many small farms and orchards across our Commonwealth, including our very own Tabora Farm here in Bucks County, struggling to make ends meet due to an abundance of local ordinances,” Polinchock said. “This legislation would reduce the number of local ordinance restrictions being placed on certain farm activities and ensure that our farm families are able to take care of our agriculture and their families as well.”
House Bill 2093 would allow Pennsylvania farms to engage in several agritourism activities on their farms without interference. Local governments would be prohibited from placing restrictions on the use of agricultural land for agritourism activities, limited seasonal events, activity that requires a limited license, retail food facilities, weddings and musical entertainment. The bill would allow for restrictions based on size of structure, parking area, property setback line and public safety concerns.
“I am pleased the Local Government Committee has decided to move this legislation forward so our small farms here in Pennsylvania can continue thriving,” Polinchock said.
House Bill 2093, now goes to the full House for consideration.
