HARRISBURG – A measure introduced by Rep. Craig Staats (R-Bucks) as House Bill 859 was included in one of the 2016-17 budget code bills passed by the House on Wednesday afternoon.

The measure encourages land preservation and amends the Tax Reform Code to state that transfers of perpetual agricultural conservation easements, historic preservation easements, and recreational use and scenic preservation easements to or between the United States, the Commonwealth or any of their instrumentalities, agencies or political subdivisions are exempt from payment of the realty transfer tax.

“This provision will have a significant impact on Bucks County and will promote land preservation throughout the Commonwealth. I am very pleased to see it become law. As a first-term legislator, it is exciting to see an issue I have worked on for several months come to fruition,” said Staats.

With the passage of several code bills on Wednesday afternoon, the 2016-17 budget process is now complete.
