HARRISBURG – State Rep. Sue Helm (R-Dauphin/Lebanon) today announced that she has been named chairman of the House Gaming Oversight Committee for the 2021-22 session. Helm was also appointed a member of the House Tourism and Recreational Development Committee.

“I have long been a friend of the gaming industry in Pennsylvania, especially with the Hollywood Casino and Penn National Race Course right here in Dauphin County,” said Helm. “With such a strong local presence, I am personally invested in ensuring the integrity of the industry as well as its success.”

The Gaming Oversight Committee oversees slot machine gaming, bingo, small games of chance, amusement laws and table games in Pennsylvania. In addition to its responsibilities regarding legislation, the committee has oversight of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board and aspects that deal with gaming within the Department of Revenue, the Office of Attorney General and the Pennsylvania State Police.

“The revenue brought in by the gaming is not only important to Pennsylvania’s tourism industry, but also helps to fund property tax relief, fire and emergency medical service grants, programs for senior citizens, and the state’s general fund,” Helm continued. “With billions generated in tax revenue, and tens of thousands of jobs supported, the success of gaming in Pennsylvania is beneficial for all.”

The House Tourism and Recreational Development Committee considers issues including travel and tourism promotion; the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission; scenic roadways; snowmobile and trail-related initiatives; amusement parks, fairs, carnivals and folk festivals; agritourism; hotel and lodging issues; recreational use of land and water; PA Wilds; and many others. The committee works in partnership with industry and government agencies to increase the state’s tourism economy and outdoor recreational opportunities.
