HARRISBURG – Rep. Gary W. Day (R-Berks/Lehigh) was appointed to continue serving as chairman of the Aging and Older Adult Services Committee after being sworn in to his seventh term representing the 187th Legislative District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

“The Aging and Older Adult Services committee is a vitally important committee in regular times, and even more so now,” said Day. “We are to be the advocate for generations that have taken care of us and our children. Older Pennsylvanians have educated us, protected us, fed us and guided us. There are numerous issues for which we must be a voice for our seniors. With COVID-19, the Pennsylvanians that we are charged with protecting have come under attack. Seniors have suffered most and have had the highest rate of death associated with COVID-19.”

The House Aging and Older Adult Services Committee is responsible for all programs and services stemming from the State Lottery Law, such as prescription drug and senior transportation programs, long-term care and assisted living licensure, and home and community-based services. The committee also provides oversight of Area Agencies on Aging; the Department of Aging; Pennsylvania Council on Aging; Intra-Governmental Council on Long-Term Care and matters dealing with elder abuse. Together with the Finance Committee, it also oversees the Property Tax and Rent Rebate Program.
