HARRISBURG – Rep. Gary W. Day (R-Lehigh/Berks) chairman of the House Aging and Older Adults Services Committee announced the unanimous passage of House Bill 464 which seeks to provide expanded protections to the Family Caregiver Support Act.
“This update to the Family Caregiver Support Act will not only strengthen protections for seniors but will bring a necessary change that has not happened in nearly 25 years,” said Day. “With unanimous support, my fellow lawmakers and I passed this bill out of committee today, to continue our work representing not only seniors, but their families and caregivers who work tirelessly to support them. This legislation modernizes three sets of requirements by amending the Family Caregiver Support Act to continue to address the crucial needs and services of our constituents.”
House Bill 464, sponsored by Rep. Karen Boback (R-Lackawanna/Luzerne/Wyoming) seeks to amend Act 204 of 1990, the Family Caregiver Support Program, to allow older adults being cared for by a caregiver, individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease or related disorders, grandchildren being raised by grandparents or those aged 18-59 with a nondementia-related disability residing with and being cared for by an older relative. The bill removes maximum reimbursement rates for out of pocket expenses and for home medications and assistive device expenses.
