HARRISBURG – The state House today passed legislation to expand COVID-19 vaccine administrators, including an amendment authored by Rep. Meghan Schroeder (R-Bucks) granting counties the sole ability to run mass vaccination sites.
Health care professionals certified to administer the COVID-19 vaccine by the United States Department of Health and Human Services would also be permitted to administer the vaccines in Pennsylvania under
House Bill 63. The legislation, based off national standards, would significantly expand the number of individuals in Pennsylvania who are granted permission to give the vaccine.
House Bill 63, featuring an amendment authored by Schroeder, would allow the southeastern Pennsylvanian counties to run mass vaccination sites exclusively, using preexisting local resources and knowledge, without interference from the state.
“This process should be in the hands of our local public health experts who know our communities best and have the resources in place to run these state mass vaccination sites,” Schroeder said. “It is time to put them in the driver’s seat in this operation. This is a commonsense approach, that will make these sites more accessible to those who need it most.”
“This is a measure that our county commissioners have advocated for and I support it,” Schroeder concluded.
The state Senate will now consider House Bill 63.
