HARRISBURG – Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives Bryan Cutler (R-Lancaster) this week announced his appointment of Rep. Tracy Pennycuick (R-Montgomery) to serve as a member of the Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission for a four-year term.
The Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission works to address some of the educational challenges military children face as they transfer between states, such as in the areas of enrollment, placement, attendance, eligibility and graduation.
Pennycuick is a United States Army combat veteran who retired from the military after 26 years of both active and reserve service. She also serves as a member of the Pennsylvania House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Services Committee.
“This issue is very important to me personally,” said Pennycuick. “My four children moved 17 times both domestically and internationally while my husband and I served in the military, and they attended as many as 10 different schools. Being able to move with military parents and still meet graduation requirements is critical to long-term success for the child, as well as retention for the military.”
The commission was developed by The Council of State Governments National Center for Interstate Compacts, the U.S. Department of Defense, national associations, federal and state officials, state departments of education, school administrators and military families.
