HARRISBURG – Rep. Ryan Mackenzie (R- Berks/Lehigh) announced his appointment to the Recycling Fund Advisory Committee by Speaker of the House Rep. Bryan Cutler (R-Lancaster) for the 2021-22 Legislative Session.
“I am humbled to have been appointed to this position, I take pride in providing Pennsylvanians an effective government that works for them,” said Mackenzie. “Last session, I passed legislation that sought to utilize advanced recycling technologies to manufacture post-use plastics as raw materials. I look forward to getting to work with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to assist our counties and municipalities in the oversight of the fund that provides grants to assist in planning, processing, resource recovery, and recycling of solid waste.”
The Recycling Fund Advisory Committee oversees revenues allocated to the recycling fund from DEP that are used for grants to municipalities, public information and education programs, feasibility studies, relating to municipal waste processing and disposal facilities, and the administration of the fund.
Through the recycling fund, DEP pays out food recovery infrastructure grants; county planning grants; house municipal inspector reimbursements; host municipality review of permit applications; county recycling coordinator grants; recycling program and development and implementation grants; recycling performance grants; host municipality siting reviews; household hazardous waste collection programs; and independent review of permit application/siting plan reviews.
