HARRISBURG — State Rep. Mike Vereb (R-Montgomery) today in Harrisburg voted for a state budget bill approved by the House that would increase the main appropriation for schools across the Commonwealth by $200 million.

“This budget would significantly increase the Commonwealth’s investment in our students,” Vereb said. “This is a bipartisan budget that increases funding for schools without unduly burdening Pennsylvania taxpayers.”

The $31.5 billion state spending plan would require no new or increased broad-based taxes.

The bill would rely on additional dollars made available through the recent state liquor law reforms, an expansion of legalized gaming and other revenue enhancements.

“We can provide more funding for our schools without enacting excessive tax increases,” Vereb said. “This budget bill is an example of what can happen when Republicans and Democrats work together in an effort to get things done.”

The bill now heads to the state Senate for consideration. The new state budget is due by July 1
