HARRISBURG – Rep. Garth Everett (R-Lycoming/Union) today issued the following statement following House passage of a General Fund budget bill, representing another step toward a completed state spending plan:
“We are making progress on a complete state budget and passage of
Senate Bill 1073, which is the General Fund legislation, represents a large step toward final resolution of a fiscal year 2016-17 budget.
“As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, work has been proceeding in a bipartisan manner to reach agreement on our state spending priorities. Even though, overall, I believe we continue to spend too much in taxpayer dollars, we are allocating increases to basic education and special education and increasing aid in reducing our public pension debt.
“We still have a long way to go, but there is a better approach being taken his year between the parties in the General Assembly and the Wolf administration. I am guardedly optimistic we will reach our goal of securing an on-time budget plan.”
