HARRISBURG – Rep. Lori Mizgorski (R-Allegheny) has worked diligently to amend the Workforce Development Act (2001) to bring state law in compliance with the federal requirements of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).

Mizgorski’s legislation, House Bill 723, earned House approval and will now head to the Senate for consideration. WIOA seeks to improve the workforce development system through innovation and alignment of employment, training and education throughout the country. The act calls for the creation of state and local level workforce development boards, all of which are tasked with creating and maintaining effective programs, sharing best practices, and training U.S. workers for high-paying and family-sustaining jobs.

“My bill would bring our state law into compliance with WIOA,” Mizgorski said. “Uniformity and consistency are key in the sharing of best practices, maintenance, and promotion of effective programs that will better meet the needs of employers and ensure quality job opportunities for all Pennsylvanians.”
