HARRISBURG – Rep. Karen Boback (R-Lackawanna/Luzerne/Wyoming), chairman of the House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee, announced the unanimous passage of five House bills that seek to provide further protections to Pennsylvanians and their families.
“The House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee continues to work in a bipartisan manner to not only protect our veteran and first responder communities, but all families throughout the Commonwealth,” said Boback. “The bills passed here today focus on establishing the Smoke Alarm Responsibility Act; transferring funds to the Emergency Medical Services Operating Fund; amending the Price Gouging Act; prohibiting the release of a public safety officials information; and amending the Flood Plain Management Act. Each bill offers more protections to Pennsylvanians and their families.”

House Bill 1598.
“My bill specifically amends the Flood Plain Management Act by placing the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency as the lead agency to oversee this program rather than the Department of Community and Economic Development. This change in oversight would increase the Commonwealth’s receipt of federal hazardous mitigation funding from 15% to 20%, according to PEMA projections,” says Boback. “With many flood prone regions in my district, I feel it is imperative that we continue to work together to quickly provide Pennsylvanians with results.”
House Bill 860, sponsored by Rep. Todd Polinchock (R-Bucks), would establish the Smoke Alarm Responsibility Act.
House Bill 1445, sponsored by Rep. Marty Causer (R-Cameron/McKean/Potter), would transfer $5.5 million in funds from the American Rescue Plan Act to the Emergency Medical Services Operating Fund.
House Bill 1546, sponsored by Rep. Frank Farry (R-Bucks), would prohibit the release of a public safety official’s home address or telephone number with intent to commit or threaten harm.
House Bill 1577, sponsored by Rep. Zach Mako (R-Lehigh/Northampton), would amend the Price Gouging Act to require certain clarifications when the governor issues proclamations declaring a disaster emergency.
The measures now go to the full House for consideration.
