HARRISBURG – Rep. Carrie Lewis DelRosso’s (R-Allegheny/Westmoreland) Alzheimer’s and dementia legislation to promote greater awareness of cognitive decline has passed the House and now heads to the Senate for consideration.
House Bill 1082 would shed more light on Alzheimer’s disease and all cognitive-related disorders throughout Pennsylvania and create a structure to unite patients and health care providers around cognitive concerns that will lead to an earlier diagnosis of the disease.
“This piece of legislation is one of the most important I’ve worked on during my time as a representative,” said Lewis DelRosso. “Alzheimer’s and dementia affect so many people whether they have the disease or not. We need to do whatever we can to make this disease a little more bearable for those who have to deal with it firsthand.”
This bill calls on the departments of Health and Aging to establish a program for primary care providers that will underscore the value of an early diagnosis. “We are in a day and age where we have the necessary tools to detect this disease early,” Lewis DelRosso continued. “It’s time to make sure that is happening.”
