HARRISBURG – State Rep. Jeff Wheeland (R-Lycoming) today voted to support
Senate Bill 255, the primary piece of legislation which makes up the 2021-22 state budget package. The bill, which passed by a 140-61 margin, must now be considered by the state Senate.
Wheeland issued the following statement after passage of the legislation, which includes no new taxes and fees, responsible spending increases and another record amount of basic education funding:
“The $39.8 billion budget and an additional $1 billion in federal relief invests in Pennsylvanians, focusing on core government services, education and response to the on-going pandemic. We are focusing on our children, which allocates a $30 million increase in Pre-K Counts and Head Start; an additional $300 million for basic education funding; $50 million for special education funding; and allocations to serve additional people with intellectual disabilities.”
“In addition, we are depositing $2.5 billion into the Rainy Day Fund to ensure Pennsylvanians do not face similar hardships like many have in the past 16 months. The budget does not include any increases in taxes or fees, which is a major achievement. We are determined to set a solid foundation for the Commonwealth.”
