HARRISBURG – Rep. Karen Boback (R-Lackawanna/Luzerne/Wyoming) today in Harrisburg voted for a fiscally responsible budget totaling nearly $39.8 billion that would increase funding to education, seniors and first responders while avoiding a tax increase on Pennsylvanians.
“This budget continues to secure our financial future,” said Boback. “By setting aside over $2.5 billion into a Rainy Day Fund and setting aside $5 billion from the federal relief fund, we have shown our commitment to Pennsylvanians by responsibly spending Pennsylvania tax dollars.
“With the historic increase in preK-12 education funding at nearly $13.6 billion, and an additional $44 million to our career and technical schools, we are laser focused on ensuring that our students receive the education they deserve and are prepared for tomorrow’s workforce. A focus on protecting the most vulnerable Pennsylvanians has also been a highlight of this budget that I am proud to support with $282 million in federal relief funds going to nursing homes, assisted living and personal care homes to help mitigate and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“As the majority chairman of the House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee I am elated to see the allocation of $5 million of federal relief funds to the Emergency Management Services Operating Fund to support all of our first responders. This budget will also continue to protect our communities by funding two Pennsylvania State Police cadet classes. Pennsylvania is on the road to our economic recovery and I am proud to have played a part in securing our fiscal future.”
