HARRISBURG – The General Assembly today approved a responsible, no-tax-increase budget today that respects taxpayers – residents and business owners alike – who are still feeling the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and the business closures. In response, York County House Republicans, which includes House Majority Appropriations Committee Chairman Stan Saylor (R-Red Lion), House State Government Committee Chairman Seth Grove (R-Dover) and Reps. Kate Klunk (R-Hanover) and Keith Gillespie (R-Hellam), issued the following statement:

“We find ourselves in a very unique situation in which the economic future of Pennsylvania remains unclear. As such, this budget plans for the future by saving $2.52 billion dollars so the Commonwealth can continue to function as it should for the people of Pennsylvania and to offset any decreased revenue in the coming years.

“While this budget plans for the future, it also addresses the needs of today. It again increases basic education funding, this year by $300 million for an historic amount of $7.1 billion. In addition, $44 million of federal relief funds are earmarked for career and technical schools so students can learn the skills needed for the jobs that are available today and tomorrow. We know our future can only be bright if we invest in those who will be leaders in the coming years. Investing in basic education provides a firm foundation for our future leaders.

“The budget also provides $279 million in federal funds for infrastructure projects that will serve the people of Pennsylvania today and well into the future.

“This well-rounded budget accomplishes much without raising taxes, including protecting our residents and their wallets.”
