HARRISBURG – The $39.8 billion budget passed by the House of Representatives and Senate on Friday invests in the future and lays a foundation for the Commonwealth to weather economic downturns, according to Rep. Jim Gregory (R-Blair).
The budget holds the line on taxes while increasing funding for early childhood education, public schools, the Pennsylvania State Police, and people with intellectual disabilities. It also allocates $1 billion in federal relief funding to nursing homes, infrastructure and the ongoing pandemic response.
“I’m thankful the Legislature saw fit to deposit more than $2.5 billion in the Rainy Day Fund. We are investing in our children not only through education initiatives, but also by setting aside money for a time when the economy may be in a recession,” Gregory said.
The package of bills that comprise the budget was sent to the governor’s desk.
