HARRISBURG –Rep. Bud Cook (R-Washington/Fayette) issued the following statement following Gov. Tom Wolf’s decision to veto
House Bill 1300, the Voting Rights Protection Act:
“I think the governor’s decision to veto this legislation speaks for itself. It is abundantly clear that he and his party do not want fair, accountable and transparent elections.”
The act would have called for an expansion of Pennsylvania’s voter identification law; required regular election audits; improved election uniformity among the 67 counties as required by the Pennsylvania Constitution; enhanced certification processes for all machines used in elections; required signature verification using ballot scanning equipment for mail-in and absentee ballots; improved lists of registered voters; and conducted an audit of every election to improve security of elections.
Wolf also vetoed a line item in
Senate Bill 255, the General Appropriation bill, which would have provided funds for the establishment and operation of the Bureau of Election Audits.
