HARRISBURG – Rep. Craig Staats (R-Bucks) issued the following statement after the House voted 136-59 to pass a historic pension reform bill:
“While
Senate Bill 1071 does not go far enough, it is an important step toward addressing Pennsylvania’s public pension crisis. This legislation will not impact current employees or retirees, and it helps improve our Commonwealth’s economic stability that is being threatened by the $56 billion pension debt. I encourage my Senate colleagues to support this bill and send it to the governor’s desk. Our pension system is in dire need of reform and today the House took the first step in that direction.”
The bill now moves to the Senate for consideration.
