HARRISBURG – Rep. Tim Bonner (R-Mercer/Butler) will host the first regional hearing in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania on Congressional Redistricting on Tuesday, Aug. 24, at 9 a.m., at Ketler Auditorium in the Pew Fine Arts Center at Grove City College, and encourages the public to take part in the public process or observe the proceedings.
“Grove City College is pleased and excited to host the first regional hearing on Congressional redistricting,” said Bonner. “It will give the Grove City College students, faculty and administration, as well as the general public, an opportunity to personally observe, and if desired, an opportunity to testify before the House State Government Committee, which will recommend the drawing of Congressional District lines for the next 10 years.”
Every 10 years, information collected through the U.S. Census determines the number of representatives each state is entitled to send to the United States House of Representatives based on population. Once in receipt of that data, states are responsible for redrawing the geographic area of their congressional districts to ensure equal and fair representation, and the physical manifestation of the constitutional principle, “one person, one vote.”
The deadline to sign up to testify live at the Northwest regional hearing is Wednesday, Aug. 18, and can be done so at

Bonner advised Pennsylvania will be losing one congressional seat reducing the state’s House delegation from 18 to 17 members. Bonner praised the process being undertaken by the Pennsylvania General Assembly to redraw the congressional district lines as the most open, fair and transparent process in Pennsylvania history. Bonner stated that any citizen will have the right to testify before the House State Government Committee, submit written testimony or provide a proposed Congressional district map for the committee’s consideration. All citizens are welcome to participate in the process defining the state’s 17 congressional districts.
The Northwest regional hearing consists of Erie, Crawford, Warren, Mercer, Venango, Forest, Lawrence, Butler, Clarion, Armstrong, Jefferson and Clearfield counties.
