WIND GAP – Rep. Ann Flood (R-Northampton) today in Wind Gap issued the following statement after Gov. Tom Wolf yesterday announced his plans to implement a statewide mask mandate for students in kindergarten through the 12th grade:
“This is another example of executive overreach, with the governor in Harrisburg telling local officials how to run local schools. Local families and local school officials are better equipped than the governor to determine student mask policies in local schools.
“Local school officials in our community and in communities across the Commonwealth have been working to establish mask guidelines that meet the unique circumstances experienced by their students. The governor’s mask mandate shows an utter lack of respect for the local school officials and families who worked so hard to create mask guidelines for students in their school districts.
“As we learn more about the governor’s new mask mandate, my colleagues and I will look for ways to restore this decision-making ability to local school officials. We will consider legal, legislative and other avenues to restore local control. Whether it’s through a lawsuit, legislation or some other means, we need to consider our options and take action to stand up for local students, parents and schools.”
