HARRISBURG - To help promote and recognize the economic impact of Pennsylvania’s amusement and water parks, the House of Representatives today unanimously adopted
House Resolution 877, designating June 10 as Amusement Park Day in Pennsylvania, said Rep. Judy Ward (R-Blair).
Representatives from four Pennsylvania parks, including Amy Mearkle from DelGrosso’s Amusement Park, joined members in the House chamber, where they were individually recognized.
“DelGrosso’s Amusement Park is an outstanding community partner that employs hundreds of local residents and is committed to giving back to the area in the form of many charitable contributions. It also draws thousands of visitors to the area each summer, and even greater numbers are expected this year with the new waterpark enhancements,” said Ward. “The DelGrosso family lives in Blair County and has made it their mission to make their ‘home’ the best it can be. We are fortunate to have such a treasure in the county.”
Pennsylvania is home to 18 family theme parks and water parks that entertain more than 12 million visitors annually and support more than 16,000 jobs.
In addition to DelGrosso’s Amusement Park, House Resolution 877 honored Camelback Lodge and Aquatopia Indoor Waterpark, Conneaut Lake Park, Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom, Dutch Wonderland, Great Wolf Lodge, Hersheypark, Kalahari Resort and Convention Center, Kennywood, Knoebels Amusement Resort, Lakemont Park and The Island Waterpark, Sesame Place, Split Rock Resort Indoor Waterpark, and Waldameer Park and Water World.
“Pennsylvania is home to a large number of amusement parks which draw tourists to the area where money is also spend on lodging, food and at retail establishments,” said Ward. “All of this helps boost job creation and drives up local and state revenues.”
Tourism is one of Pennsylvania’s leading industries, injecting nearly $40 billion annually into the economy and supporting 304,000 Pennsylvania jobs.
