HARRISBURG – Rep. Gary W. Day (R-Lehigh/Berks), chairman of the House Aging and Older Adults Services Committee, held a public hearing today discussing the suspension of regulations during the COVID-19 pandemic, as it relates to the treatment and residency of older adults in Pennsylvania.
“In March, I sent letters to the secretaries of the departments of Aging and Human Services out of concern of the suspension of many of the regulations related to COVID-19,” said Day. “Those letters requested information on why the Wolf administration took unilateral action without any input or discussion from the General Assembly. I was grateful to have representatives from the departments of Aging, Health and Human Services here today to hear our concerns. Many of the regulations that were waived during the pandemic are instrumental to the safety and health of residents, employees and visitors in long-term care facilities. Today we discussed regulations that should be permanently or temporarily suspended, as well as some of the regulations that will be kept in place.
“We saw that many of the regulations that were suspended are ones that typically keep seniors safe and healthy. Throughout this pandemic, we have taken steps to try and protect all Pennsylvanians and I am encouraged that the administration is working together to protect not only our most vulnerable populations – but all Pennsylvanians.”
