HARRISBURG – State Rep. Jim Struzzi (R-Indiana) is cosponsoring and supporting legislation that would give his constituents and residents in rural communities throughout Pennsylvania access to high-speed internet service.
“The COVID-19 pandemic really exposed our lack of access to an acceptable level of high-speed internet service. It’s a problem we knew existed before and now there is even more reason to address this fundamental need,” Struzzi said. “This insufficiency is a major weakness in our infrastructure and so much more than simply making it easier to download movies. High-speed internet plays a critical role throughout our society, from education to emergency services to health care to agriculture. It should be treated as a basic need.”
Struzzi is supporting
House Bill 1766, which would further fund the already-established Unserved High-Speed Broadband Funding Program using $100 million in federal stimulus money from the COVID-19 Response Restricted Account.
“The expectation of a satisfactory and serviceable connection to high-speed broadband service is approaching the level of expectation that exists when consumers open a faucet and anticipate running water or flip a switch and expect a light to come on,” added Struzzi. “It is essential to the way we conduct business and educate our children. In so many ways, access to high-speed broadband service levels the various ‘playing fields’ in our world for rural Pennsylvanians.”
Questions about this or any legislative issue should be directed to Struzzi’s district office at 1-724-465-0220.
