YORK – The House State Government Committee will host a hearing on Wednesday, Oct. 13, in York to receive input from residents on congressional redistricting, Chairman Seth Grove (R-Dover) announced.

Those interested in offering in-person testimony at the 4 p.m. hearing at York College of Pennsylvania’s West Campus Community Center, 441 Country Club Road, York, can register by visiting PaRedistricting.com. The deadline to register is Wednesday, Oct. 6. Written testimony can be submitted until Wednesday, Oct. 13.

“Ensuring each congressional district reflects communities of interest and that communities aren’t divided are key components of the congressional redistricting process,” Grove said. “Hearing directly from residents to learn more about their communities will guide the committee as it begins to redraw congressional maps. I look forward to hearing from York Countians and residents of the entire Southcentral Pennsylvania region.”

The college requires that everyone — regardless of vaccination status — wear a mask indoors and fill out a short questionnaire regarding COVID-19 and COVID-19 symptoms. Participants and members of the public are encouraged to arrive 10 minutes before the start of the hearing to complete the questionnaire or fill out the form online here. Residents unable to attend in person can watch the hearing live online at PaRedistricting.com.

Every 10 years, information collected through the U.S. Census determines the number of U.S. representatives each state is entitled based on population. Once in receipt of that data, states are responsible for redrawing the geographic area of their congressional districts to ensure equal and fair representation, and the physical manifestation of the constitutional principle, “one person, one vote.” This process is commonly referred to as redistricting.

The hearing is one of eight regional hearings held throughout the state to gather input from Pennsylvania residents.
