HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania House Majority Leader Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre/Mifflin) addressed the media Wednesday and noted the significant proposals passed by the House that delivered for the people of Pennsylvania.
“The essence of leadership is being able to advance and realize a vision while not losing sight of what is in front of you,” Benninghoff said. “I am proud to say we came here and got wins on some really important fronts for the people of Pennsylvania.”
Of the highlights of the last three session weeks, Benninghoff noted the following achievements:
• Extending the Tropical Storm Ida disaster declaration to keep the recovery in southeastern Pennsylvania going, coordinated and funded.
• Passing legislation to help fight the opioid addiction crisis by allowing greater information sharing in the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program.
• Passing “Shawn’s Law” to protect those who are mentally and emotionally vulnerable.
• Passing legislation to keep government limited by continuing the regulatory waivers and suspensions.
• Passing bills to create greater transparency in education and in public health emergencies.
• Passing legislation expanding eligibility for the economically disadvantaged schools program, which helps students find the right education.
• Passing legislation to keep seniors eligible for the PACE/PACENET program.
• Passing legislation to make it easier for law enforcement to find missing persons.
• Starting important discussions on how higher education is funded, on broadband, on election reform and on school choice.
“The work we did is emblematic of what we can do when we work together in the type of cooperative government the people of Pennsylvania expect,” Benninghoff said. “When we return at the end of the month, the House Republican Caucus will continue standing up for Pennsylvania families and taxpayers by advancing the issues they care about.”
