YORK – Following a hearing on congressional redistricting held at York College on Wednesday by the House State Government Committee, committee chairman Rep. Seth Grove (R-Dover) issued the following statement:
“I want to thank the residents who attended the hearing and provided their valuable input on the congressional redistricting process. The input the committee received will be taken into account as we move forward with redrawing congressional districts. Involvement by the electorate is needed to ensure local voices are heard loud and clear.
“Committee members, including myself, look forward to similar engagement with residents as we hold additional hearings in eastern Pennsylvania next week.”
At the conclusion of the series of hearings, the committee will work to redraw the Commonwealth’s congressional district maps. Pennsylvania’s current tally of 18 congressional seats will drop to 17 districts based on U.S. Census data.
The census is administrated once every 10 years to gather information, which ultimately determines how many U.S. Representatives are allotted per state, based on population. Following completion of the U.S. Census, each state is to receive the data and conduct a redrawing of congressional districts to reflect equal and fair representations, known as redistricting.
