HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania will finally have a completed 2015-16 state budget after Gov. Tom Wolf announced today he will allow the supplemental budget bill passed by the General Assembly last week to become law without his signature, said Rep. Martin Causer (R-Turtlepoint).
“With our schools, hospitals and agriculture programs facing a major financial crisis, I am pleased the governor finally decided to release his hostages and allow this much-needed funding to get to the people and programs that need it,” Causer said.
“This budget is balanced, provides record funding for preK-12 education, increases funding for our universities and supports our hospitals, all without increasing taxes on the people who foot the bill,” he added. “It is a reasonable, responsible budget, and I am very pleased it will become law.”
Finishing the current year’s budget will allow lawmakers to better focus on the 2016-17 state budget, which is due by June 30. The governor has proposed increasing spending in that budget to more than $33 billion and called for an 11 percent increase in the state income tax retroactive to Jan. 1.
