HARRISBURG – Rep. Gary W. Day (R-Lehigh/Berks), majority chairman of the House Aging and Older Adult Services Committee, announced the passage of Senate Bill 729 which would permit for virtual instruction for certified nurse aide (CNA) training programs.

“This bill allows aspiring CNAs to complete a portion of their education online,” said Day. “We have seen online education tools proven successful during the COVID-19 pandemic, when in-person instruction was delayed or unable to complete. This step will remove any employment barriers there may be and get more CNAs in their field to provide care to older Pennsylvanians in these facilities. Thanks to Sen. Judy Ward (R-30), this important legislation has been brought forward.”

Senate Bill 729, sponsored by Ward, amends the act known as the Nursing Aide Resident Abuse Prevention Training Act, further providing for implementation to allow for virtual instruction for CNA training programs.

The bill now goes to the full House for consideration.
