HARRISBURG – State Rep. Bryan Cutler (R-Peach Bottom) joined his colleagues in the House to pass a supplemental budget with bipartisan support this week. Under
House Bill 1801, the 2015-16 state budget would spend $30 billion, a 3 percent increase over the previous year’s budget, without requiring any new taxes.
With his affirmative vote, he released the following statement:
“More than $10.7 billion would be dedicated to basic education funding – a $200 million increase. Also, that money would be disbursed to Commonwealth school districts fairly. By using a bipartisan basic education funding formula, school districts that have been historically underfunded would begin to receive their fair portion of resources.
“This proposal not only provides schools the opportunity to remain open, but makes a significant increased investment in our children’s education. I encourage everyone to call Gov. Tom Wolf at (717) 787-2500 to communicate the importance of supporting this budget and keeping our children in school. Without the funding that this legislation would authorize, many schools in the Commonwealth will soon be at risk of closing. We simply cannot allow that tragedy to materialize.”
