HARRISBURG – Members of the York County House Republican delegation today joined the majority of their colleagues in sending to Gov. Tom Wolf a key piece of budget-related legislation for the 2015-16 fiscal year.
House Bill 1801, which passed with bipartisan support, restores the Dec. 29 cuts made by the governor via line-item veto before he signed the current budget into law. The bill increases basic education funding and restores support for agriculture – Pennsylvania’s No. 1 industry – and correctional facilities across the state.
State Reps. Seth Grove (R-Dover), Kate Klunk(R-Hanover), Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-York Township) and Mike Regan (R-Dillsburg) issued this statement following passage of House Bill 1801:
“Today we are asking the governor to do what he had the opportunity to do on a number of occasions – avoid a potential crisis by funding education and government services responsibly without the need for broad-based tax increases.
“When he signs House Bill 1801 into law, the threat of schools declaring bankruptcy and/or closing will end. For the current fiscal year, funding for basic education funding will be increased by $200 million over last year.
“Gov. Wolf will also be reinstating the cut to agriculture that is jeopardizing the existence of the Penn State Cooperative Extension, our farming community’s life line in their time of need. The extension service will be able to continue conducting vital research that allows Pennsylvania to deal with threats to our economy such as those posed by avian flu.
“Our taxpayers’ hard-earned dollars are currently sitting in the Pennsylvania Treasury. Today the governor can put that money to work and allow us to move ahead with preparations for the 2016-17 fiscal year.”
