HARRISBURG – Rep. Kurt A. Masser (R-Columbia/Montour/Northumberland) joined the majority of his House colleagues in voting in favor of Senate Bill 3, which as amended, would allow physicians to prescribe medical marijuana to patients with certain qualifying illnesses.

Senate Bill 3 would help ease the suffering of children with seizure disorders, veterans with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy by legalizing the use of medical marijuana.

“This bill is about compassionate care,” Masser explained. “After meeting many parents and their children who suffer from dozens of seizures a day, and learning that this bill could help them, we just cannot turn our backs on them. As someone who watched his father and brother suffer, and ultimately lose their battles with cancer, I would do anything to go back in time and give them a method to relieve their pain.”

Absent of federal action, about half of the states in the country have authorized some form of legalized use of medical marijuana.

“I had hoped the federal government would have taken care of this issue before we brought up this bill, because it does create a conflict for states, but due to its inaction, here we are,” Masser said.
