HARRISBURG – During session of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, Rep. Torren Ecker (R-Adams/Cumberland) gave details of two pieces of legislation he is sponsoring to aid fire departments.

“As a former junior firefighter, I have witnessed firsthand the tireless work these brave men and women perform every day and I am proud to sponsor two bills to further aid our volunteers,” Ecker said. “These fire departments are run by friends, family, and neighbors and provide a vital service to our communities. We must assist them when we are able, and I am happy to do my part by authoring legislation to support their operations.”

Ecker’s House Bill 1973 would extend to fire companies an existing Department of State exemption that allows fundraising activities carried out by members or volunteers of charitable organizations to not be subjected to costly audits.

He is also working on legislation to help junior firefighters be fully trained prior to turning 18 years of age by allowing junior firefighters to take interior firefighting and vehicle rescue technician training courses when they reach age 17.
