HARRISBURG – The board of the Pennsylvania School Employees’ Retirement System (PSERS) met Thursday and elected Rep. Frank Ryan (R-Lebanon) to a second term as its vice chairman.
Ryan has been an outspoken member of the General Assembly on the need for pension reform and has sponsored legislation to address funding issues that are plaguing the state’s two public pension systems and threatening Pennsylvania’s fiscal solvency.
A certified public accountant, Ryan was appointed to the PSERS board by former House Speaker Mike Turzai in June of 2019 and reappointed by Speaker Bryan Cutler. In January of 2020, he was named PSERS vice chairman and chairman of its Audit Committee. On the Audit Committee, Ryan is responsible for the system of internal controls that is sorting out issues on the unfunded pension liability.
A retired Marine colonel, expert in corporate restructuring and management, and fiscal conservative, Ryan has been actively involved in efforts to restructure PSERS to ensure its financial viability and protect its annuitants – current and future.
“It has been particularly satisfying to work on meaningful changes at PSERS,” said Ryan. “It is also an honor to serve with other hardworking professionals, especially Christopher SantaMaria, for whom I have great respect and admiration.”
Ryan’s term expires on Dec. 31, 2022.
