Feb. 08, 2016

HARRISBURG – Freshman Rep. David Parker (R-Monroe) has been selected to serve on the committee to escort Gov. Tom Wolf into the House chamber on Tuesday, Feb. 9, to deliver his budget address for the 2016-17 fiscal year.

“It is truly an honor to be selected to serve on the committee to escort and introduce the governor to the joint legislative session for his annual budget address,” Parker said. “While largely a ceremonial role, today’s budget address is very important to the business of enacting a sensible and fiscally responsible state budget.”

Parker has been a recognized leader in the effort to support the new Basic Education Funding formula unanimously recommended by the state’s bipartisan Basic Education Funding Commission. His budget amendment would not only implement the new education formula in statute, it would also speed equity payments to 180 school districts that are currently underfunded annually by $937 million for the past 24 years.

“This year infamously celebrates the 25th anniversary of the elimination of Pennsylvania's school funding formula,” Parker said. “I have been leading efforts to restore and fund a fair and equitable school funding formula.”

You can watch the governor’s address streamed live tomorrow starting at 11:30 a.m. at RepParker.com.
