YORK- Rep. Stan Saylor (R-York) today announced that the House Appropriations Committee, which he chairs, amended legislation to provide critical funding to support Emergency Medical Services (EMS) across Pennsylvania.
Senate Bill 739, as amended by the committee, will allocate a total of $25 million in federal disaster relief funds to be distributed under the Emergency Medical Services COVID-19 Recovery Grant Program. EMS companies will be able to apply for these funds through the Office of the State Fire Commissioner.
This legislation builds upon the General Assembly’s efforts two weeks ago to distribute $225 million in federal relief funds for hospital and behavioral health providers to retain and recruit staff.
“I was happy to offer this amendment and make sure that these dollars get into the hands that need them,” Saylor said. “Just as we prioritized federal funding to support our frontline health care workers in hospitals, these funds will ensure that our EMS professionals throughout the state receive the same recognition.”
Saylor and the full House of Representatives will pass the legislation later today and he expects the Senate will send the bill to the governor’s desk by the end of the week.
