HARRISBURG - State Rep. Greg Rothman (R-Cumberland) issued today the following statement on Gov. Tom Wolf’s final budget address:
“Today Gov. Wolf gave his eighth and final budget address, and it sounded quite similar to his previous ones – it is full of excessive spending that Pennsylvania cannot afford.
“The $43.7 billion budget would provide an unstable footing for the Commonwealth. The governor claims he will leave his successor a surplus of funds, but in reality, it shows a nearly $800 million deficit.
“During the last budget, my colleagues and I approved a successful Rainy Day Fund, which the governor claimed he spearheaded. While the Rainy Day Fund remains, the governor neglected to add more dollars to the reserve and spent every cent remaining. His five-year financial statement makes arbitrary adjustments to revenue and expenditure estimates in an attempt to cover up the impact of his spending spree.
“Pennsylvania cannot afford a spending spree. We need a balanced budget for our small businesses, working Pennsylvanians and dollars for our children’s education.
“As we move forward, I will continue to focus on fiscal responsibility and the livelihood of my constituents, so Pennsylvania will not fall behind.”
