HARRISBURG – Now that Gov. Tom Wolf’s ridiculous budget proposal has been presented and is dead on arrival, the real work of crafting a 2022-23 spending plan can begin, according to Rep. John Hershey (R-Juniata/Mifflin/Franklin).
Hershey will play a key role in the coming months as he and fellow members of the House Appropriations Committee question state agencies about how they justify funding requests.
“Today, the governor talked about his priorities, which would create $6.2 billion in new spending next year. That represents a whopping $17 million each and every day. What Pennsylvanian finds that palatable?” Hershey asked.
The governor and fellow Democrats would position the Commonwealth for future failure by increasing spending to unsustainable levels. With this proposal, Pennsylvania would have to face real cuts in the future as federal money disappears. Fiscal conservatives like Hershey will instead do the tough work to cut costs, save for the years to come and protect taxpayers.
“I’m here in Harrisburg to provide foresight to the budgeting process,” Hershey said. “My constituents know you can’t increase spending 16.6% from one year to the next. Deep down, the governor probably knows that too. Rest assured I’ll do my part to better position us for 2022-23 and the decade that follows.”
