HARRISBURG – In response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s plan to increase state spending by $6.2 billion, Rep. Tracy Pennycuick (R-Montgomery) issued the following statement:

“Bigger government, higher taxes and increased spending is what the governor has proposed today. That is not the type of decision-making my constituents are asking of me. I am being asked to shrink government, hold the line on taxes and invest prudently in programs and services that have proven track records.

“Gov. Tom Wolf wants to spend $6 BILLION more than what the Pennsylvania state government runs on currently. It is pure fantasy that he thinks spending money hand over fist is the key to a successful budget. All he did today was propose a plan that would ultimately raise taxes on the people of Pennsylvania to cover the costs of such irresponsible spending now and in the future.

“Furthermore, he is sitting on $5 billion in federal education funding that he has yet to release that would help schools across the Commonwealth make needed capital improvements. The fact that he is trying to spend even more taxpayer money, when he isn’t even properly investing the money he already has, says a lot about his leadership.

“I will personally be working over the next few months to make sure we ultimately pass a budget that is balanced, invests in our students, supports our business community and sets up our state for future success.”
