HARRISBURG – Rep. Gary Day (R-Lehigh/Berks) issued the following statement after hearing Gov. Tom Wolf propose a $43.7 billion budget for the state in the 2022-23 fiscal year:
“This is no budget – this is a spending plan. Budgeting means investing in what you truly need and saving for the future. What was presented to the General Assembly today is a spending spree by an outgoing governor who wants to buy a better legacy than the one he has earned by his actions over the last seven years.
“This idea of spending every dollar in our pocket leads to pressure to increase taxes. I will continue to be vehemently opposed to a tax-and-spend management strategy. The governor’s decision to ignore the professional number crunchers at the nonpartisan Independent Fiscal Office and instead use his own numbers to inflate anticipated revenues and downplay increased costs in future years speaks volumes about his dishonesty and disrespect of the taxpayers who foot the bill for his spending.”
