HARRISBURG – Today, Gov. Tom Wolf held a press conference to discuss the outcome of his GO-TIME initiative, which was created to produce $150 million in savings through government efficiencies. State Representative Seth Grove (R-York) issued the following statement following the governor’s press conference:

“At the beginning of his term of office, I was thankful that Gov. Tom Wolf created the GO-TIME initiative to reduce costs and make the state government more efficient. My legislation, House Bill 11 would provide for training to state agencies and employees in lean management practices, which would accelerate the pace of creating a more efficient state government.

“These practices should be adopted and I am hopeful that the governor will support this legislation and double-down on doing everything possible to provide savings to the taxpayers. While I appreciate his efforts to produce savings in government, I take issue with his insistence on raising taxes on middle-class Pennsylvanians.

“Today, he provided an update on the initiative and stated that it ‘is on its way in saving $150 million.’ Where are those savings going? Are the savings being driven back to the taxpayers or is the governor going to use these savings for further government spending? Today, Wolf applauds efforts to save, but next week during his budget address he will propose massive tax increases on Pennsylvanians.

“Additionally, the governor often talks about a “structural deficit” in the state budget that was sent to his desk in December, despite his $6 billion in cuts and $3 billion slash to statewide education funding. If the governor wants to get serious about addressing that issue, he should credit GO-TIME savings to the state budget and end his efforts to raise taxes. He also should read my report on non-tax revenue, which found $759 million in available to be used to balance the budget, without gouging taxpayers wallets.”
