HARRISBURG– State Rep. Sheryl Delozier (R-Cumberland) issued the following statement today on Gov. Tom Wolf’s final budget address:

“For Gov. Wolf’s eighth and final budget address, he decided to metaphorically burn down the House as he heads out the door. Instead of investing in Pennsylvania’s future, he decided to take every cent and go on a spending spree.

“Going into the third year of the pandemic, he seemed to have forgotten the financial turmoil Pennsylvanians have faced. Our taxpayers are hurting, unemployed and seeing rising costs. We need a budget that respects the taxpayer and plans for the long term by recognizing the future costs and not spend every penny of state and federal dollars and leave future years in debt.

“Despite the disappointment, I must continue to work for my constituents and recognize the common goals for Pennsylvania’s future. I look forward to programs that invest in two Pennsylvania State Police cadet classes, and in our children involving PreK-12 and higher education.

“The overspending needs to be reigned in, but I agree with the governor’s support of our post-secondary learners with additional dollars added to state grants and Ready-To-Succeed line items to allow PHEAA and other partners to help reduce the cost of college and technical schools for our future leaders in the Commonwealth.

“The future of Pennsylvania is not a short-term problem; it is an investment. Gov. Wolf should have realized that by now.”
