Dec. 29, 2015
HARRISBURG – Rep. David Maloney (R-Berks) today expressed concern about the behavior of Gov. Tom Wolf during a Capitol press conference where Wolf announced he will again use his veto pen – this time to slash more than $6 billion from the $30.3 billion 2015-16 state budget that had been sent to him via a bipartisan Senate vote in time for Christmas.
This compromise budget was an increase of $200 million over the budget Wolf vetoed on June 30 and would have increased K-12 education funding by $405 million – its highest level ever in state history. While some revenue increases may be required to fund this budget, it will not require the massive income and sales tax hikes sought by Wolf.
Issuing the following statement, Maloney said the press conference shone a light on Wolf’s inability to coherently discuss the issues and control his anger:
“Ignoring that property taxes are an issue he campaigned upon, Wolf issued yet another veto to the citizens of Pennsylvania today, calling on them to ‘pressure’ lawmakers into voting for his massive income and sales tax hikes.
“In May, the House approved a comprehensive tax relief package by a strong bipartisan vote, yet Wolf hasn’t even lifted a finger to act to save people from losing their homes.
“What Pennsylvanians were treated to today was a disturbing tirade of name calling and continued inability to discuss the issues: property taxes, record debt and funding for state government sent to him via a bipartisan vote.”
