Dec. 15, 2015
HARRISBURG – The York County Republican House delegation today called on Gov. Tom Wolf and the state Senate to include significant and lasting property tax reform in the 2015-16 state budget.
With the Senate’s passage of a Wolf-approved “framework budget” that ignores Pennsylvania’s homeowners, the delegation expressed deep disappointment that the governor and the Senate have abandoned property tax relief in lieu of political expediency.
State Reps. Seth Grove (R-Dover), Kate Klunk (R-Hanover), Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-York Township), Mike Regan (R-Dillsburg) and Stan Saylor (R-Red Lion) issued the following statement:
“The House tackled the difficult and complex problem of school property taxes in May with a comprehensive measure authored by Rep. Saylor and co-sponsored by the entire delegation that provided $4.9 billion in property tax relief statewide and contained strong mechanisms to prevent school boards from hiking taxes back up in the future.
“This legislation passed by a strong bipartisan majority of 105-86 seven months ago, yet the governor and the Senate have done nothing but give lip service to property tax reform and hold ‘show votes,’ which is deeply disappointing and an affront to the homeowners of this state who stare darkly toward their 2015 property bill.
“Pennsylvania is 26 Senate votes and one governor’s signature away from lifting a huge burden off the citizens of this state, and it is long past time to get it done.”
